The Fondation Alimasi pour la Charité (FACHA-USA) was founded in 2022 out of a profound belief that every person deserves the opportunity to live with dignity, hope, and equal access to opportunities, regardless of the circumstances they face.
FACHA’s story is rooted in lived experience, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to serving those who are most vulnerable.
Its Founder and Executive Director, NGWENA Emmanuel Alimasi, spent many years working alongside disadvantaged populations in Africa. Throughout his life, he witnessed the devastating effects of poverty, social exclusion, forced displacement, and the lack of access to essential services. These experiences shaped a deep conviction that compassion must be translated into meaningful action.
Forced to flee conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo, he personally experienced the realities of refugee life. During years spent in Tongogara Refugee Camp in Zimbabwe, he came to understand the daily struggles faced by displaced individuals and families: uncertainty about the future, limited resources, transportation barriers, food insecurity, interrupted education, and the emotional burden of exile.
Rather than remaining a passive observer, he chose to serve. As a volunteer catechist, community leader, and advocate within the refugee community, he worked to support vulnerable families, encourage those who had lost hope, and strengthen solidarity among people facing hardship. These experiences reinforced his belief that humanitarian assistance should go beyond emergency relief and help people regain confidence, independence, and dignity.
After resettling in the United States, he observed that many of the same challenges persisted among refugees, immigrants, low-income families, elderly individuals, and other vulnerable populations. Transportation difficulties prevented people from accessing healthcare and employment opportunities. Children
lacked educational resources. Newly arrived families struggled to navigate unfamiliar systems without adequate support.
Recognizing these unmet needs, the Fondation Alimasi pour la Charité (FACHA-USA) was established in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, as a nonprofit organization committed to removing barriers and creating opportunities for those facing hardship.
Since its founding, FACHA has focused on practical, community-centered solutions that respond to real human needs. Through transportation assistance, food security initiatives, educational support, humanitarian services, and community engagement activities, the organization seeks not only to address immediate challenges but also to empower individuals and families to move toward self-reliance and active participation in society.
Driven by the principle that every person possesses inherent worth, FACHA places human dignity at the center of all its work. The organization believes that assistance should not create dependency but should instead restore hope, strengthen resilience, and enable people to build better futures for themselves and their communities.
Today, FACHA serves as a bridge between compassion and opportunity. From its headquarters in Rhode Island and through its branch office in Uvira, Democratic Republic of Congo, the
organization continues to expand its efforts to support vulnerable populations with integrity, inclusion, and respect.
What began as one person’s response to suffering has evolved into a growing movement of volunteers, partners, supporters, and community members united by a common purpose:
to transform compassion into action, barriers into opportunities, and hope into lasting change.

A Message from Our Founder
Dear Friends,
As you visit our website and learn about the work of the Fondation Alimasi pour la Charité (FACHA-USA), I would like to share with you the story behind this organization and the reason why its mission is so close to my heart.
I did not establish FACHA because I had abundant resources, a large network, or a carefully designed plan. I founded FACHA because I have lived the realities that many vulnerable people face every day.
I was born and raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where I witnessed both the beauty of community life and the devastating consequences of poverty, instability, and conflict. Over the years, I dedicated myself to serving others through community initiatives, faith-based activities, and support to those experiencing hardship. Yet nothing could have prepared me for the day when I, too, would become a refugee.
Forced to flee my homeland because of conflict, I left behind the familiarity of home, the comfort of certainty, and many of the things I once considered permanent. Together with my family, I sought safety and eventually found refuge in Tongogara Refugee Camp in Zimbabwe.
Life in a refugee camp changes a person forever.
I witnessed mothers wondering how they would feed their children. I saw young people whose dreams had been interrupted by war and displacement. I listened to elderly people who feared they would die far from the land they loved. I met men and women who had lost not only their possessions but also their sense of belonging and hope.
I experienced what it means to wait—waiting for news, waiting for decisions, waiting for opportunities, and wondering what the future might hold.
Yet even in those difficult circumstances, I also witnessed something extraordinary.
I saw people sharing the little they had with others. I saw neighbors comforting one another. I saw communities organizing themselves to support the most vulnerable. I saw resilience, faith, compassion, and courage in places where despair could easily have prevailed.
Those experiences taught me one of the greatest lessons of my life: human dignity must never depend on one’s circumstances.
Every person deserves to be seen, respected, heard, and given the opportunity to rebuild.
When my family and I were eventually resettled in the United States, I carried those lessons with me. I was deeply grateful for the opportunities before us, but I quickly realized that many individuals in our new communities continued to face barriers that limited their ability to thrive.
I met refugees struggling to attend medical appointments because they lacked transportation. I encountered newly arrived immigrants trying to understand unfamiliar systems without guidance. I saw families forced to choose between paying bills and purchasing food. I met children whose educational potential was threatened by limited resources. I listened to elderly individuals living in isolation and people with disabilities facing daily obstacles.
I recognized their struggles because, in many ways, they reflected parts of my own journey.
That realization gave birth to FACHA.
In 2022, the Fondation Alimasi pour la Charité was established with a simple but profound mission: to transform compassion into action.
FACHA exists to remove barriers, restore dignity, and create opportunities for vulnerable individuals and families. Through transportation assistance, food security initiatives, educational support, humanitarian services, and community engagement, we seek not only to respond to immediate needs but also to empower people to move toward self-reliance and active participation in their communities.
I firmly believe that assistance should do more than provide temporary relief. It should restore hope. It should strengthen confidence. It should remind people that they matter and that their lives have value.
At FACHA, we do not see statistics; we see people.
We see the patient who needs to reach a medical appointment.
We see the child eager to learn.
We see the newcomer searching for belonging.
We see the elderly person longing for companionship.
We see the volunteer willing to serve.
We see the dignity inherent in every human being.

Why FACHA Exists
The Fondation Alimasi pour la Charité (FACHA) was born from personal experience, lived realities, and a deep commitment to human dignity.
The Founder and Executive Director, NGWENA Emmanuel Alimasi, has witnessed and experienced many of the challenges faced by vulnerable populations. Having lived through conflict, forced displacement, refugee life, economic hardship, and the complex process of rebuilding a future in a new country, he understands firsthand the barriers that prevent many individuals and families from achieving stability and self-reliance.
During years spent working with vulnerable populations in Africa and later as a refugee community leader in Zimbabwe, he observed recurring challenges affecting countless individuals:
- Lack of transportation to access healthcare and essential services.
- Food insecurity and hunger.
- Limited educational opportunities.
- Social exclusion and isolation.
- Poverty and unemployment.
- Lack of support systems for newcomers and vulnerable families.
After arriving in the United States, these same challenges continued to be visible among refugees, immigrants, elderly individuals, low-income families, and other vulnerable groups.
FACHA was therefore established not simply as a charitable organization, but as a practical response to real human needs.
The Foundation exists to remove barriers, restore dignity, create opportunities, and empower individuals to build better lives for themselves, their families, and their communities.
At FACHA, assistance is not seen as an end in itself. Rather, it is viewed as the first step toward empowerment, self-reliance, and community transformation.
